Responses on the
voting keep increasing. This month, 17 of you
voted in the poll, a decrease from last month that I'll blame on the
holidays. I'd still prefer a higher percentage,
considering that 300 of you are
downloading the shows, but for now I'll just assume that the silent
majority agrees with the decisions of the minority, because I've yet
to hear a complaint. Still, I really appreciate feedback from you,
and I'll keep pushing for more. If you haven't
yet registered for the
4thellamas.com message board, please do so now. After you do, go to
the downloads thread and
post some
feedback on this show, and then take a moment to
vote for the
download you would like to see released in February. Please try
to vote by the 29th. After you've voted, you can
post a request
for a future download. Remember, this site will be as good as
you help make it!
This month, the
voting was for the August 20, 1998 show. This is the first show from
the 1998 tour. In 1998, the band toured in support of "Miles from
Our Home," a complex record that featured standard rockers like the
title cut and mournful beauties like "No Birds Today." The Junkies
also appeared on the phenomenally popular Lillith Fair tour that
year.
As they had
started to do on the 1996 tour, the band included a couple of
acoustic numbers in their sets on this tour. A highlight from this
show is "Something More Besides You," which in my opinion is an
example of how Michael Timmins can write complex songs that blend
hope and fear or despair all at the same time. This song quickly
became one of my favorites, along with "Ring on the Sill" and
"Witches."
Over the years,
the band has played a lot of excellent shows in California. In fact,
it might be one of the best states to live in if you are a hardcore
llama.
I hope you all
enjoy this excellent show as a promising way to start off 2007!!!
