SHOW 2.8a and b

June 13, 2000: Moore Theater - Seattle, WA

AND

October 8, 2003: Paramount Theater - St. Paul, MN

Well, the voting was anemic for the past six weeks unfortunately, but two shows finished tied in the Vote for Show 2.8 thread on the message boards. Given that they were tied, and that my crazy retail life delayed offering any shows, I've decided to offer both again, so hopefully this is a nice way for my fellow llamas to ring in the new year.

Speaking of voting, I'll make my monthly request, so here it is: if you haven't yet registered for the 4thellamas.com message board, please do so now. After you do, go to the downloads thread and post some feedback on this download, and then take a moment to vote for the download you would like to see released in February. Please try to vote by the 27th. After you've voted, you can post a request for a future download. Remember, this site will be as good as you help make it!

So, the first show comes from the 2000 Waltz Across America tour, a tour that gave us a lot of quality performances from the band. This show is from Seattle and features some great songs, including "Ring on the Sill," the always welcome "Upon Still Waters," and "Dragging Hooks," which had just been debuted a few weeks earlier in New Mexico.

Plus, quite frankly, this show contains "Something More Besides You" for the first encore, so it has two of my all time favorite Junkies' tunes ("Ring" being the other). I remember the excitement I felt when I saw this setlist and popped the show in to listen to after receiving it. Hopefully you'll all like it as well.

AND NOW, for show 2.8b!!! I have to admit, I sometimes wish the band would play two sets more often. Rush started doing this in 1997 in their "Evening With." As an completely unreformed jamband fan, it's something that I get to see a lot, and it's always nice. The band certainly has the material to do it, so hopefully they will go back to it.

The two sets of the 2003 tour were quite different from each other. Set 1 was the Folk Fusion Quartet, which was an acoustic set with Margo, Mike, Jeff and Jaro. Set 2 was the normal electric set. This set up a wonderful progression for the evening.

This show has some wonderful moments. Any time the band dips into the rarely played "Witches," you know it's a special evening. The acoustic set also has the haunting "1000 Year Prayer."

The band ramps up the electric set with "Crescent Moon," and also plays a few songs that they've never recorded on an album, "Morning Cried" and "IKEA Parking Lot." They were debuting several songs on this tour that were eventually recorded on "One Soul Now" and "Early 21st Century Blues." The set ends with "Helpless," a great cover song for the band.

So pull up a chair, spend a night downloading these two shows, and then listen, and celebrate the New Year with 4thellamas.com, and if you haven't yet registered for the 4thellamas.com message board, please do so while you're waiting for your downloads to complete. That way you can vote for the download you would like to see released in February!
