SHOW 2.11

July 13, 2001: Barrymore Theater - Madison, WI

So, for this show, we're back to the Open tour, a tour that for me is one of the band's defining tours, along with the 1994 tour. The voters selected this gem from the Barrymore Theater in July, 2001, a time when the band was really pushing themselves live.

Speaking of voting, I'll make my monthly request, so here it is: if you haven't yet registered for the 4thellamas.com message board, please do so now. After you do, go to the downloads thread and post some feedback on this show, and then take a moment to vote for the download you would like to see released in June. Please try to vote by the 27th. After you've voted, you can post a request for a future download. Remember, this site will be as good as you help make it!

The is tour really features some interesting moments. For the first time since a handful of shows in 1996, "Witches" had returned to the setlist, albeit still played in small doses. The reworked "The Last Spike" proved to be a tremendous force. Finally, the band had finished the "River Song Trilogy" with "Dragging Hooks," and at a few shows, such as this one. they played all three parts of the Trilogy in order. It made for a very interesting journey, from the hopeful start to the mournful end.  Very Cowboy Junkies.

As at all shows, the band ended the set with an outstanding cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Thunder Road," something I hope returns to the lineup again soon.

I hope you like this one as much as I do!
