Well, the voting was
close this month, nearly split between the three shows that were
requested by people in the
request a
release thread on the message boards. In the end, this show from
the Spring Waltz tour won the day. Speaking of voting, I'll
make my monthly request, so here it is: if you haven't
yet registered for the
4thellamas.com message board, please do so now. After you do, go to
the downloads thread and
post some
feedback on this show, and then take a moment to
vote for the
download you would like to see released in May for the one-year
anniversary of the site!!!. Please try
to vote by the 27th. After you've voted, you can
post a request
for a future download. Remember, this site will be as good as
you help make it!
In many ways, I am
most partial to the shows from the 2000 Waltz Across America tour,
which started with the Winter Waltz in February, and included the
Spring Waltz in June and the Fall Waltz in October. It was after
seeing the band perform on Valentine's Day in St. Louis that I first
discussed the idea of being the band's archivist with Michael. The
live CD, "Waltz
Across America," was made up of songs recorded on this tour, and
includes the stunning reworked version of "Hollow as a Bone."
Highlights of this
show include a raucous "I Saw Your Shoes" to open things up, a
haunting "Crescent Moon," and the lovely "Five Room Love Story." For
an encore, the band performed "Dead Flowers," a fantastic cover of a
Rolling Stones' song that they just brought back into rotation in
January of this year, so if you are lucky enough to see them this
summer, you might get to hear it!
In closing, I'll
leave you with Mike's words about this show from the tour diary:
"The
gig tonight was a bit of a rock show. We all had to get our ya-yas
out since it will be a while until we are gathered together again.
It was a fun night.
This has been a great year of
touring for us. The Waltz tours have been the most fun that we have
had on the road since we started out. A large part of the reason for
that has been you folks who have embraced us so strongly and opened
yourselves up to our music. Thank you, we are forever grateful."
